May 15th Update:

We�ve been encouraged by the number of users who have successfully used the new website over the last few weeks and will continue to iron out any kinks that some users are still experiencing. But we also understand that for some of you it has been a long and frustrating time since the launch of our updated site and we apologize for this. We�re devoted to resolving the issues you�ve experienced immediately following our launch and have some updates to share...

We know the biggest issue you�ve expressed right now is missing revenue/sales data and this is our top priority at the moment. We can assure you that we are making revenue payments on schedule and we are working toward populating your account with payment history and pending revenue information. This is a complex process since earnings are changing by the minute as books are purchased, which is why we are working as thoroughly and diligently as possible.

We have never intended to leave you in the dark, nor have we left your questions and support requests unanswered. Our small support team has been working hard to get through all of the questions and cases we�ve received. Many of you have commented about our phones and live chat features being off right now. We have made the decision to concentrate 100% of our efforts on email support for now so our team can offer the most thorough assistance possible. We will be turning live chat and phones back on soon.

Several of you have suggested that we roll the site back to the outdated version until we can resolve the current issues - this is not an option. While it may not seem this way, the overwhelming majority of our users are not experiencing issues and are enjoying the new site. And yes, the update from the old site was absolutely necessary due to the outdated technology it was built on.

The internal processes that are being run in order to resolve these few remaining issues are constantly evolving and the timeline will continue to change as a reflection of that. We will continue to post updates as frequently as we have them.

Lorraine Holloway-White Is there any way we can delete books or unpublish them as one that I thought was retired and unpublished is being shown as for sale. Also, where do we find our author spotlight? I still can't find where that is anywhere. Thank you

- Gurki B�r Kenneth J Kerr You are the rights holder. You can publish the book at any time at another place - but with an ISBN of the other provider. This is described in detail and easy to understand in the forum: https://lulu.boards.net/post/3094/thread (under certain circumstances the book may then be available in two editions with two different ISBN until it is withdrawn at the previous location).

- Andrew Flindall When you click on a project it takes you to the 'Start' tab of the process.
  Towards the bottom of that page is the 'Select a Goal' section.
  Select the 'Print Your Book' option.
  As it says: "Your Book will be uploaded to your account and available only to you for purchasing copies in any quantity you desire." Essentially, you are making it a private project.

It seems that if you want to remove books from Lulu, you have to organise a brand new ISBN that you own - instead of Lulu owning it - and somehow retire the book with the Lulu ISBN so you can republish it with your own ISBN... this is where I get stuck. How do you get rid of all the books out there with the Lulu ISBN?

- Andrew Flindall Unlikely, I'd have thought, 'the system' will see them as two different books.
  
  One thing to consider for future flexibility is buying your own ISBN rather than use Lulu's, or Amazon's or whoever's. In theory, you can print the same book anywhere but I'm not sure if or how the ordering system would pick up that you've moved from one printer to another. It may be as simple as updating the details with the ISBN-registering company.
  
  It's not an area I've looked into too closely as I'm planning on testing the water with some non-ISBN titles, trusting to the international reach of Lulu being enough. The hope is the desirability of the obscure reprints I've got in the pipeline will outweigh the hassle of not being a one-click purchase from Amazon. Time will tell...

- Nicole Taylor Andrew Flindall I�m doing some research and you can�t migrate ISBNs from publisher to publisher which is why I should have got my own. If I�d known that Lulu would crap itself and I�d be looking for a new publisher I would have definitely done this. Having to republish and get my own ISBNs is no problem, it�s just that reviews and ratings will probably disappear. I�m so annoyed about that.

FuriousFotog I figure I�d voice my concerns from my professional page as well. This has been one of the worst upgrades I�ve ever experienced on any of the publication platforms that I use for my works. Highly upset at the lack of communication and deletion of all projects.

Grant Hudson I invite anyone who belongs to this �overwhelming majority� to comment here. I have seen dozens, if not hundreds of vehement complaints in the various posts (which you have since deleted) which suggest that, contrary to what you�re saying, this �upgrade� has been an international disaster. It certainly has been for me, and I have taken my business elsewhere until you can entice me back. This is very sad, as I�ve been a loyal customer and advocate since 2008. What most of your customers want is reparation, a fuller apology and a more comprehensive explanation of this total mismanagement.

- Tovli Simiryan Boy! I am not sure what lulu is talking about! This is an epic disaster. I've decided lulu is dead for now...can't access ANYTHING...going on 3 weeks. Well, I have no choice but to hope it comes back and my books are not lost. In the mean time I'm trying mitigate loss/damage via competitors. Sorry. No other choice!

  Penni Weston I just want to understand what has happened and if my books will be there so I can do the revisions I set out to do. I'm not even trying to make a profit on any of mine right now. I have made important corrections that I cannot seem to fix in the books!!! My books are very important to me...but since I like LULU.com I will try to work the problems out. I'm not ready to leave it all behind.

- Perry Pankratz I believe Lulu's pulling the desperation card, they know it's bad, but acting like everything is good. I know I've had enough of these games, I'm pretty sure Lulu will still be fixing this train wreck well into summer. The books of mine that are good will stay here, but I've already started "migrating" my unable to revise projects to another site. I'm pretty sure I'll be done moving before Lulu is done.

- Tovli Simiryan Penni Weston I too am an "Indie" and proud of it! I started with Barnes and Nobel press. similar to lulu--so far about $1 more per unit. There was a little bit of a learning curve--my programmer husband helped me. I have been told that amazon is also an option--I opened an account, but so far I am just exploring.

  Penni Weston Perry Pankratz Never heard of them, thankfully. Publish America was such a joke. I'm ashamed I let them touch two of my books and then they wanted me to BUY back my rights to publish it. I eventually republished through LULU and I was happy.

I was lucky enough to keep my rights. Hopefully you got the rights to your book back? Yes, Lulu provided the freedom from the scammers.

- Mick Mercer draft2digital is good. They can get you to Apple and Barnes & Noble (and other smaller outlets) and you can exclude Amazon from the list so you can deal with Amazon separately. The benefit here is that when you do your books on draft2digital (which is free), you can download mobi and epub files to use on Amazon. Win-win!

In any crime, the rule of thumb is to follow the money. Who stands to gain by unprecedented sales during a pandemic? Certainly not Lulu, which has been off the air for at least 3 weeks in the most lucrative sales period we have ever witnessed to date. If it does not make sense to you, and you are puzzled over this, well, think about it. First rule of crime detection and crime solving: who stands to gain? Amazon owner Jeff Bezos has become a trillionaire during this pandemic. Which others have stood to gain out of Lulu's (and our!) misfortune and massive loss of revenue? Tovli Simiryan Here's one you guys...believe it or not, I was able to do "chat" with customer service today. They were very nice and the usual Lulu professionalism that we've been accustomed to for so long. I still could not access my account, but they agreed to be in touch--apparently something is wrong that the chat-person could not detect on their end. So, maybe there is hope. Just wanted to pass on some light at the end of a very long (4 weeks so far) tunnel. Good luck to everyone.

Mick Mercer I have been paid by Lulu on my usual monthly date, and it does reflect what I saw in my revenue area just before the chaos started. Weirdly, I was informed by paypal in my email rather than the normal Lulu email, but I'm not bothered by that. On my Lulu dashboard there's nothing showing for April whatsoever, so at least this indicates the info is indeed saved. That's something.

Dane Barrett To be fair on Lulu (telling both sides instead of just the bad), they've contacted me regarding the cover misalignment issue I was having and have admitted fault on their end that my template with the starfield bleed covering the blue areas never actually made it to the printers (apparently an older cover template was still saved in their system even though I'd replaced it). They've taken care of me (looks like they're about 8 days behind with support tickets if mine is anything to go by as of today) but I'll need to have a long and hard think about whether to continue with them. I'm almost too scared to dare ordering another copy of the same book now.

I thought they would make it good Dane, they are just in a world of hurt right now at support. I'm starting to see changes and fixed. Still some not done, but that shows they are working on it.

Ricky Wilcox Love to see this work out but can't revise books, they turn to drafts and can't complete. The draft one have no files there and I had them published already so the cover and interior should already be there. Which tells me the migration is not complete. I really want to add more books but the cover wizard has had too many complaints on borders being shown. Maybe do a short video on how to use the new cover creator and where exactly to put the edges of the cover. Is it inside the lines, over the lines, even? It says look for certain things but no everyone knows those things. Some people are pure beginners and don't understand. A nice how to video on the cover creator would be nice. I've not even looked at the ebook cover creator yet. Your communications should have been more frequent to give more hope to those who needed this income during such a terrible time. Maybe so many would not have left.

- Andrew Flindall Tweaked to use the downloadable template colours which are the opposite of the live Design Preview page:
  
  The cover is printed on a larger sheet, glued to the textblock then the whole book is trimmed to size. Because either the gluing or trimming may be inaccurate (+/-3mm typically):
  
  1) the margin (dark blue/purple) is there to stop you putting critical text or images too close to the edge where they might be lost;
  
  2) the bleed (light blue) area is there so you can extend the cover's background off the edges so that a misaligned cut won't leave unprinted paper along an edge.
  
  So, to summarise:
  
  The 'ideal' cover should be designed within the inside edge of the light blue (bleed) area.
  
  The cover's background should extend to the outer edge of the dark blue/purple (bleed) area.
  
  No critical text or images should be set in the dark blue/purple (margin) area.

- Andrew Flindall None of that is new, but I suspect Lulu is putting the onus on us to get the covers right, which seems fair enough. It's possible that they used to enlarge just-big-enough covers to create bleed, then got flak for 'altering' the covers.

At the moment since I can't see it, the blue and purple are confusing. I know the blue is the outside border of the template though. I have photoshop and understand the template thing but it's what you just described that gives me a little trouble.

  Our cover design must fill the white and blue areas - that's the finished cover size. The blue is the might-get-trimmed margin ON the cover.
  
  To avoid white edges if/when the trimming is off, WE should now extend our cover background colours or images over the purple area.
  
  All we're being asked to do is to make our covers a little larger than necessary so Lulu don't have to tinker with them and, potentially, get flamed for doing so.
  
  Imagine having a frame with an aperture the size of the finished cover laid over your cover design... If it's spot on, great. If it's misaligned on one or two edges, you can see why you need the bleed (purple) - and why you might lose data in the margins (blue).
  
  I will get some screenshots later of one of mine...

  One detail I have noticed is that Lulu don't use consistent colours for the bleed and margin areas colours on the 'Design' tab preview and the downloadable template:
  
  Design preview: light blue margins, purple bleed
  
  Template: dark blue/purple margins, light blue bleed
  
  That can only lead to confusion. I will have to remember to raise a ticket when things have calmed down. I think I'll stick it in its own post as well, just in case anyone's looking...

Doug Gray I can't even access my projects to revise or approve anything. The wrong books are "pending approval". My attempts to revise have only created new drafts that cannot be deleted. That's in addition to the missing sales data. I have written in at least 3-4 times for help and no answer. This is really a huge disappointment. Now I want access to my books just to remove them from your site.

Filippo de Capitani It's happening and the site looks great!!! Of course I can see only part of the payments, I am assuming that is in between the old and new but overall looks very good. I just want to spend a word in favour of Lulu and these people who are working behind the scene. Considering the situation that we are all living in right now, you are doing a wonderful job, and if there are mistakes I sincerely hope that people will understand. Mistakes can happen and we can forgive. Nothing is lost. Love to each other is the most important thing these days...

- Ricky Wilcox Yes, after all of the anxiety we just went through the site is finally coming along. I have a few hiccups that need fixed but I put in tickets and waiting. Did you notice on the blue box where reports are there is a new tick box? To show paid revenue vs. unpaid. I clicked it and it showed my proof copy I got today.

- Andrew Flindall The upgrade might be a bit of a train wreck but the new site/process is just different from what everyone's familiar with. The old site had its quirks as well - as a newbie I'd just started getting the hang of those before the upgrade hit. Lulu have been fairly clear that what we're getting initially is not final, e.g. the planned proper cover creator.

Better cover creator for those who don't have software to use the current one. And doing any changes that they said wouldn't require a proof is leaving me with drafts that can't be finished. The files I created aren't there, neither the cover or interior. It was already published before all this.

- Dane Barrett I'd probably feel more forgiving if they hadn't cost me over US $100 in botched printed books which don't match what their new tools showed they would look like. Unless pocketing people's money and delivering an incorrect and sub-par product is just the way business works now, of course. I somehow doubt you'd run your own business that way.

Ricky Wilcox Quick question...Since they set up the new cover creator, I was lucky enough to find my cover and interior pdf's I downloaded before the update. I was wondering could these not be used in the new creator? Only thing is it asks for page count etc..But seems size would have been configured in the old one so size might be right? The project is still missing both files and I want to get it complete to buy a proof.

Gary Hill Have you considered temporarily expanding your support staff? I mean, it's been almost three weeks since i sent in a ticket, and other than the automated response which I replied to as it says to do, I've not gotten an answer yet. Since you have a brand new interface on which people are trying to create their books, it seems they might need support more quickly than three weeks or more.

- Andrew Flindall That would probably be counter-productive. Lulu would have to reduce the fix effort to train new staff, then we'd all be moaning like buggery that the new support staff don't know what they're talking about and are just mouthing platitudes.
  Continuing to fix things will clear a lot of the issues, then they can concentrate on the outliers.

- Gary Hill As someone who has worked IT phone support I disagree completely. First, the support staff (hopefully) are not the ones actually doing the fixes on the system. If they are, that's another issue. They should be dedicated support staff. Secondly, a LOT of the issues are going to be simple. Those are the kinds of things where the same question will be represented in maybe 40 percent of the tickets. Someone on the first day could ask a question about it once or twice and then solve the ticket over and over again after that. The more difficult questions would be routed to the experienced support staff. So, instead of having everything sitting in queue, you get a lot of it out quickly, with just one or two support people available to answer the quick questions for the new support people or tell them to send it to them for more detailed help. That gets the easy ones out of queue quickly and speeds up the rest of them. There are literally companies that provide precisely that kind of service. You bring them on and they assign part of their crew to it. Then your support people are no longer having to take care of the simple stuff and can focus on the more difficult stuff. Sure, it's an expense, but in this case, I think it might be better than the current situation because it will keep their users happier. I'd consider it damage control if I were them.

- Andrew Flindall I nursed XP along until well into the Win10 era but eventually you have to bite the bullet. We don't know how much effort it was taking to hold the old site together and how close it was to meltdown. If that had happened, we'd all be questioning why they hadn't upgraded the site.

Daniel R. Peterson This is a farce! Many serious issues remain! Lulu support has stopped responding to cases. I reported four days ago that 159 of my projects were restored by Lulu without their totality mark ups. As of today, 23 books have sold without royalties causing a loss of over $100! Why can�t Lulu respond and fix their mistakes?

Penni Weston Wow...just went to my page...it took me fifteen minutes to get in using the same password they denied over and over. Michael Bell I have held my e-tongue for three weeks while this has unfolded. But I�m almost lost for words at how bad this has been and how bad it still is. What was a perfectly fine, easy-to-use website has become a complete disaster. Three weeks after the alleged improvements I still can't update the interior file to my book so I can't order or sign-off an updated proof. It still tells me that it is �normalising� the file I uploaded three weeks ago.
Payment information is still incomplete.
Cover files still missing.
Discounts on previous works have been cancelled without notice or explanation.
No response to messages to Lulu support.
Some deliveries have arrived yet show as still in production, some show as complete but have not arrived even though now overtaken by other deliveries.
Sales Tax suddenly being charged when it was not before.
What is the point of offering a 15% discount when I can�t finalise my own book!
This must be the most poorly communicated, badly managed and badly executed migration ever.

AJ Campbell All these weeks later, none of my projects are accessible from the author profile. Service tickets requesting help are automatically marked "resolved" with no way to actually get help. At this point, as soon as my files actually are available, I will be taking them elsewhere. I published my first book with Lulu in 2008 and had been very happy, but this is so many kinds of unacceptable.

Cat Wilson Yes, you got it. It is frustrating not to receive revenue from sales made from January to May only to be told the website doesn't work. Wouldn't Lulu Press be frustrated? It's unfair to keep an author's profits when you've had use of the money for months. What happened to honoring the people who make you money? You set the rules of only making payments a few times a year, we were patient, and then you hung your good clients out in the rain.

GaQuilla Hunter-Mathews Despite NOT being able to see my book cover on the site, I ordered a few books just to see what would happen. Thankfully, everything was/is the same with my book. I actually received them a lot sooner than I previously had in past orders.

Still bummed that consumers can't see my book cover, thus they probably won't order. But, at least I have some on-hand to try to sell while you guys are STILL fixing (as you say) the website.

Ricky Wilcox Ok I published or rather republished a book. My files were missing so I used the pdf's I had downloaded from before the updates. It accepted them. Not sure if I might have to redo the cover or not but I learned how to use the book creation wizard. It's not hard at all. There is also a help button you can click on if you get stuck and it will high light what you need to do on the page. I did the error message your project is taking longer than expected to publish, check back later for updates. So other than the cover it wasn't that bad. I did have trouble on the payee part, it never would let me pass to the next section. Finally figured out I had to set the price in each region to at least a minimum amount. Once I did that it worked and published. Edit: I just went back and looked in projects so it's saying Buy a proof...So it worked.

Myra Singleton Johnson I have been very happy with Lulu since 2012 and recommended it to several friends. I now have friends who are UNHAPPY with ME because of this horrible "upgrade". Also several of my books are STILL not showing in the projects list and one cover is STILL not showing in the spotlight. HOW DO YOU FIND THE SPOTLIGHT FROM THE LULU HOME PAGE? Frustration is the key word with all this "upgrading".

To make the point with every post that Lulu are kicking their loyal customers in the teeth... not newbies, but people who helped them build their business over many years. At this stage, I see such a learning curve ahead (if they even get it together) that I find it hard to be enthused about starting over. This is reality. This is a start over again scenario for many of us. Will you pull this again in the future Lulu? Can we ever trust you again?

Eric Eaklor Like the MANY unhappy users (contrary to what this post claims) dealing with this update debacle, the worst change has been to simplify and de-personalize the Spotlight pages. It removes all individuality and a description is hardly enough to give potential readers a feeling for what you and your books (style, genre, etc) are all about. It's one thing to simply say "I write X genre" in a description, it's another to be able to go to a page and see layout, colors, and personal touches that make it stand out. As well as links to other personal author related material. This whole thing us a failure that they refuse to acknowledge. The least they could do is take some feedback and try to make SOME accommodation for these concerns! As a long time Lulu user I feel betrayed that there was no warning or attempt to get feedback and suggestions before implementing this so called overhaul. I get the need to stay current, but this has gone wrong on SO many levels.
IS ANYONE ON THE LULU TEAM READING THESE? If so, show some respect and give us some consideration and real answers, not generalities.

And now one project which was approved and put into distribution last year, had sales which I got paid for, now says I need to PURCHASE A COPY TO REVIEW AND APPROVE FOR DISTRIBUTION!! Sammers Jojo Update for me on the LuLu debacle. I finally was able to get into the account though not every aspect of it. I ordered three of my own books just to test and see what the outcome was. Just received them now and they are fine. I still however cannot get into revising, account sales etc but I am sonewhat confident things will be back to normal with LuLu at some point. However I will wait for the normalcy to return before doing anymore promoting.

Ricky Wilcox I've been messing with the new site. Seeing some progress done finally. I was able to revise many ebooks and completely published a paperback. I used the one piece template. The only problem I had was size was incorrect and that was easy to fix. There is also the older type cover creator with templates if you need. Very bland but it's there. Just to tell you after you publish you might get a message saying it's taking longer to publish the book. That's OK. Just got back a few minutes later in projects and the book should be complete. At the moment I'm able to log in, all projects are there, but one cover is still corrupt, and three or four books say general when they should say Global. Still no report so waiting till tomorrow and see what happens. Overall my anxiety has lessened and I like the site, if they add more to the spotlight and a delete / retire option. Hope those of you having problems are getting them fix.I know one said the cover preview was incorrect, going to buy a proof soon and see what happens.

John Haines Can you clarify you are now adding 'taxes' to UK orders for books printed in the UK and sent to a UK address? I made 3 orders a few days ago, and each had some sort of tax added to the costs. Not usual as far as I know for UK book purchases.

How sad that Lulu has created such a mess that customers of your stature are forced to look elsewhere. I hope the management is paying attention. Michael Walker Some of the book covers are still missing, I can't locate several of my books on the "My Projects" pages, some of the books which had been in distribution are now marked as requiring me to purchase a proof copy - something I completed long ago. It is still well worth the wait to get this up and running properly as the quality of the finished books is truly excellent.

  At the moment the support works like this: grouping e-mails. If the topic of a group is solved in principle (but not necessarily in individual cases) all these tickets will be closed. The individual case will only be looked at if you reply exactly to this closing e-mail and request that the ticket be opened again.
  
  If you write a new e-mail, a new ticket is sent and the same procedure is followed again.

Leslie Dare Your support form doesn't work! All attempts to submit are unsuccessful; the progress wheel spins, then goes away. There's no indication that the information was submitted, no email confirmation. I've tried different browsers, no luck. Your voice message says to send a message to help@lulu.com, but that bounced. I also tried info@lulu.com, but no response. I am beyond frustrated - I paid hundred of dollars to have my book printed and all 50 copies were the OLD cover and interior. Completely wrong! Come on, Lulu, please get your act together, and implement some actual support.

Melanie Gass Worst upgrade ever. And I owned a tech firm that did this type of work so I�m entitled to say it as it�s inexcusable. It�s been about a month. If you didn�t mean to leave people in the dark you would have posted this 3 weeks ago, updated the what�s new past April 24th and you certainly would update your phone message beyond �Saturday upgrade.� You would also send a mass mail to all unresolved tickets and kept communications updated. Mine is outstanding and is not resolved and I�m 25 days in. I�ve been with you for over 15 books and since 2006. But this is beyond repair and have taken my business elsewhere because I get to chose who I work with, and it no longer includes this disreputable business. Unfortunately I still need a ticket resolution to access the account as I can not do a manual reset. You have more than a few small issues remaining. Absolutely the worst experience ever.

Tony Ellis I am very angry. I have books I want to update, but daren't as they've not transferred across properly yet. Any why are some of my books 'version 1' and others 'version 2'? What does that mean (it's not edition numbers as some should be well above that). My latest book still has no image, and a draft book I was working on has disappeared. Will it come back? Moreover, my support message to you some 9 days ago has not been responded to yet. I also want to do some other bits, but I simply don't trust the site at the moment, not one bit.

Ben Gates I�ve spent the last 6 hours trying to get a proof copy printed for my father.

Previously we uploaded a word document and successfully printed a proof copy with no issues. Now I have to convert it to a PDF document prior to uploading and I�ve spent all day hunting for some unsupported fonts that lulu previously printed before the update??

The fonts don�t appear on the advanced search of the word document header or main body but it appears in the pdf and this is blocked from being uploaded?

I�m not looking forward to the cover editor.... if I ever get that far 😕

Hugo Valentin Negron Progress! Password working, all books showing, cover images showing - still no revenue appearing, and you can tell they are importing data over bit by bit - out of the 12 books I have (6 paperback/6 ebook versions), initially they were showing with no status. Now, six are approved for distribution, one is pending, and another is in review, so it looks like they are pushing these out at last. Of course, the confusion is if these are all available for purchase? The email response I had received in regards to my question stated if they show with an "add to cart" active button when you pull up to purchase, that means they are "live", which all of my books appear to show - so we'll see - but I'm happy to see positive status updates at last...!

- Andrew Flindall Irrespective of how well it's gone or not, I think it was a sensible move to prioritise sales during the upgrade rather than creation. Where it went a bit wrong was this should have been communicated better and earlier. Perhaps it should have been enforced by stopping us from tinkering; but that's water under the bridge now.

Robert Stott There are still some major quirks, but the site seems to be working for the most part.

But you might want to check your source files. All of mine were empty .pdfs.As in, 0 kbs. I had to re-upload them all, then make them private, then back to general access so the system would recycle itself so the system would show the project as updated.

Tom Buggy These updates should include a list of known specific issues that remain to be resolved. Customers would then know the status of their remaining issue(s) and whether they need to submit a support request. For example, my only issue is a lost ISBN (even though it's on the cover).

Robin Bell Finally received my revenue payment - but the advice came directly from PayPal rather than Lulu. Still no sign off payment and revenue history, it just tells me I don't have any, so I have no way of telling what's been sold where. Also have problems logging in if I hit return too quickly, tells me my password is incorrect. And now I've been told I'm a Top Fan of Lulu! :)

I still hve no sales or payments information shoing on Lulu and several of my books - which have been available on numerous outlets for at least a couple of years are now showing 'Distribution Review Pending'. One even tells me to buy a copy and review it, even though as said, it has been on sale for a couple of years. What a shambles......

Steve Carrigan After a month, I still am not able to purchase additional copies of a book I published just a week or two before LuLu's infamous update. The book shows up in my project list but there is no cart button to order it. All my old books I can order but not the two newest ones. I have never had a response from anyone at LuLu even though I have filled out several request forms. I only get automated responses that the problem is resolved. BS on that.

Ricky Wilcox Just read Paul's blog on the updates. The cover creator is actually very nice in it's option to see what your book will look like without buying a proof. Like Amazon's from what I see. There is a nice graphic showing how it works there. But yes the new pdf upload is a learning curve for some. Me too.

Not a fix-it-now issue but it does hinder clear explanations to those struggling with covers: you don't use consistent colours for the bleed and margin areas colours on the 'Design' tab preview and the downloadable template:

Design preview: light blue margins, purple bleed

Template: dark blue/purple margins, light blue bleed

It would help if they were the same so any explanations applied to both tools.

Elizabeth Arthur I can now see thumb nail pictures for my books in My Projects but I still cannot access the files or see any details about them. I am still sent to "Start a new project". I also now see "distribution review pending" so fingers crossed these will all marry up. Soon. Please. I can't do anything further. Ricky Wilcox Yes here too. Still no report showing so I can compare sales. One corrupt book cover still not fixed. And books still not showing anywhere but Itunes after one month. Not on Amazon at all. I've written three or four times about the books and heard nothing , and nothing's done yet. Otherwise the site does work better.

Steve Sinsabaugh I have 7 books on Lulu. I'm trying to do an eighth (pdf file ready) but the new tool doesn't seem to accept the pdf file. At the Interior File Upload area, it says there was an error uploading file, please try again. Just to verify, I even tried a pdf file from a book I'd already published under the old Lulu system, figuring that PDF file was proven compatible. QUESTION - is anyone else having this problem (i.e., Lulu's new create new project system still isn't working) or might it just be me?

Ricky Wilcox I'm able to use all parts of the site. But still no report, one corrupt cover, many books still "pending"? And my last two books still not in distribution except Itunes and Barnes. Not Amazon after six weeks.

Gary Hill Can we expect that at some point we'll get an actual response to support tickets? I submitted my ticket three weeks ago yesterday. A week ago I got an automated response, to which, as requested by the email, I replied. Still no response to the reply. I now have new questions about a book I'm trying to publish. The book needs to be published nine days from today, so I'm hoping that maybe I can get a response in time to be able to make the deadline.

- Scott Mosher I've been saying the same thing for literally, weeks now. Chat - unavailable at any time. Phone system - not taking calls. Messaging through social media? No response. Talk about poor customer service and the frustration that comes with attempting to get in touch with anyone there, is quite apparent.

Alain Stalder Some things are reappearing for my books (after I wrote to support yesterday, but not sure it that is directly related - if yes, thanks!). Actually I like the new product pages for the books. As others have described, the ones that were global reach are now "GENERAL ACCESS" and "DISTRIBUTION REVIEW PENDING", hopefully that is only temporary, I presume possibly also a safety measure to make sure the book is distributed with all data correct... And one of my books I offer as PDF ebook (at lulu.com only) is listed very cheaply at the moment (USD 0.00), but I can live with that if that is not permanent...

Cole Rivard I finally have covers in all my projects, 3 are a mess. All the hardcovers are incorrect.
There�s still nothing when I click on a project, so I�m not sure if I should edit. (I would like to delete everything)
I did create one of my unreleased books from start to finish, it was easy enough, and ordered a copy. I am pleased with it's quality. Now, I just need to delete hardcover books, and figure out if everything needs to be recreated.

Yzavela Narvaez I'm a published author on various digital platforms and wanting a physical print copy, Lulu was the best however since your 2020 updates, you have messed up everything for new or existing authors and it's NOT for the better 👿 You need to go back to the older versions, at least giving authors the chance to work with what they're familiar with! Especially the cover upload/designs! 🤷🏻‍♀️ You make the dimensions harder to fit and then there's the interior issues; page counts can't be over your new limits! That's not fair because author publish/write lengthy files 👿 I had books published from Lulu before the updates and the setups were easy and final print was amazing! ☹️

Barb Blanks Well, HA, Lulu! I just finished creating my new book at Amazon's KDP. Not only that, but my Proof copy cost about half what you quoted me, and the postage was less than what you charge, too. You just HAD to go and mess with your terrific website--after all the years I recommended you over Amazon's Create Space--and you forced me to go to the competition. I don't have time to wait until you unscrew the mess you are right now. I'm sorry you drove me to this.

Kenneth J Kerr Where is the May 11 update with all the comments from members of your so-called family who are incredibly inconvenienced, disgruntled, and looking at other alternatives? Every time you delete an update with previous comments, you are being dishonest, disrespectful, and frankly divorcing your family from you. I am sincerely disgusted at you right now. I have a question for you, how do I get rid of books that I allowed you to have an ISBN for? Am I free to take those titles somewhere else at this stage because of the confidence that has been lost in your company?

Gabriel Harley I resubmitted an old project--I'd successfully had it printed only a couple of weeks ago--as a new project and then got a "support" email saying Lulu can't print it... AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHY. So they suggested I fix the document. How exactly am I supposed to fix an UNKNOWN problem caused by YOUR system, Lulu.com? Terrible, terrible "upgrade."

Chloe Holland Can anyone tell me if the book editing options for making your own covers are still awful? Have there been any improvements? If not, can anybody explain to me how I use their one piece pdf template to make my own? I haven�t a clue what I�m doing 🙂

- Andrew Flindall To use the one-piece pdf template you need a reasonable image editor - I use Photoshop Elements that came with a scanner, but there are freeware ones like GIMP. They are plenty powerful but they do come with a bit of a learning curve if you've not done much photo editing.
  
  All I do is import the template, it gets converted to an image at actual size, then images and text can be laid over it, making sure they respect the marked zones.
  
  Without an image editor, it should be possible to create a custom page in Word or whatever to the same dimensions as the template, do your thing, then 'save as', export or print to pdf. (I'm a little wary of recommending this at the moment as Word-PDF conversion has been a right pain in the backside for me for a week or two now but it should work.)

  David Morris Chloe Holland. My first port of call, was downloading OpenOffice (free) where you can design your cover using the Lulu templates and export directly as a PDF. But initially, I use Paint which is installed on my PC, although it is available to download if you don't have it.

Bets Mars Helpful hint if you switch your text to calbri the one that says body at the top it will go through with all your pictures mine just went through! Just have to tinker around with it till you get use to it! Has anyone created a magazine yet? Would love to know how to do that!

Penni Weston UPDATE: I FINALLY got back in to my projects page, however I am quite befuddled by how difficult it is to do anything different. I did order two of my books and they had better be right. These are gifts and that is important to me to have them correct. They won't let you change covers or anything. I had the covers I wanted dang it. Just hurry up and make the changes workable.

Hello Mike I apologize for the frustration you've experienced while using Lulu.

Due to a high volume of emails we are trying to respond to them as quickly as possible, but it is taking us longer to reply. As soon as an available support representative is able to, we will respond to your case to resolve the technical issue you are currently facing.

We are migrating over and normalizing data right now. This will result in files missing from projects and sales data being incomplete until we have finished. This doesn't stop sales from previously published content. If somewhere were to place an order for a project that hasn't had its files normalize, we do send it to the queue right away so that the order can be processed. That way authors don't miss out on customers looking to purchase their books. SEE MY COMMENT BELOW - YOU MAY BE PROCESSING ORDERS, BUT THEY ARE OF POOR QUALITY AND SHOULD BE REPLACED

Currently in the UK we are experiencing delays due to COVID-19. This will result in longer production and shipping times. We do apologize for the inconvenience.

We are also actively working on fixing the VAT issues with the UK. This is a priority for us.I LOOK FORWARD TO BEING REFUNDED

We are communicating weekly updates on Facebook. We understand that some authors would like daily updates, but in order for us to remain on task it is more time effective to give weekly updates for all the changes we've made and fixed.

Susan Joyner-Stumpf So on the the template. Where do you drop your image? inside the inner most dark blue lines? Or on top of the light blue lines? Never did this one piece before. Never had to. Can anyone help me here? Where do I drop my cover images? Inside the dark blue line or over it, and over the light blue? I don't know. I can't post a sample of the screen shot here
